We Are History in the Making: Alum Joe A. Arnold

Mr. Arnold is senior vice president and manager of SunTrust Atlanta’s Not-For-Profit and Government Banking division which, along with its cross-LOB teammates, provides banking services including credit, depository, treasury management, capital markets, trust, etc. to  501(c) and governmental entities, including large public and private educational institutions, hospitals, municipalities, state government agencies, foundations and associations, and churches, among others.

Joe began his SunTrust career in 1981 on the bank’s management training program, and then devoted several years to New York-based clients as a part of SunTrust’s treasury management division. Then, from 1987 until 1995 Joe managed SunTrust’s Manhattan, NY-based loan production office.  After returning to Atlanta, aside from his current role, he led credit and training teams, as well as a number of company-wide initiatives.

Joe is board chairman of the Metro Atlanta YMCA, and vice chairman of the board of the Atlanta (Union) Mission.  He also serves as a board member of the Atlanta Area Council-Boy Scouts of America, KIPP Metro Atlanta, and the Greater Atlanta Christian School Foundation.  He provides leadership as an advisory board member to The Foundation Center, the Nonprofit Center at Georgia State University, and the Georgia GOAL Scholarship. Other nonprofits that Joe gives volunteer service to include the University of Virginia’s Ridley Scholarship Fund, Leadership Atlanta, and the United Negro College Fund.

A native Atlantan, Joe graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and a concentration in Finance. He and his wife, Renee, have three children: Joseph, Brittany, and Jordan.
